Dean Barber

Dean BarberDean Barber, founder and president of Barber Financial Group, began his career in the financial services industry on one of the bleakest days in recent history, October 19, 1987, Black Monday. It didn’t take him long to realize that the answer doesn’t lay in how much money a person makes; it’s in how much they keep. He has built one of Kansas City’s premier financial management firms, specializing in assisting retirees, pre-retirees and business owners in building and preserving their wealth through the concepts of asset management, tax strategies and estate planning.

“I believe the number one eroding factor in a person’s estate is taxation,” said Barber. “In my opinion properly controlled tax strategies and income distributions are most important. It’s about preservation first.”


Dean has become a nationally known resource for financial planning and advice. Since 2003, he has hosted a nationally syndicated radio program, America’s Wealth Management Show. He has been a regular contributor for many publications and broadcasts for news programs, such as the Wall Street Journal, Fox Business News, CNBC, Bankrate.com, International Business Times, U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, Small Business CEO Magazine, New York Times.com, Investment News.com, Business Week, Portfolio.com, Kansas City Business Journal, KMBC-9TV and  KSHB-41TV. His weekly radio program features guests like economist Harry Dent and Ed Slott, the CPA often quoted by the Wall Street Journal. He has also lectured and presented to key employees for several Fortune 500 corporations.


Dean and his family have called Kansas City home for more than 20 years. He considers his Midwest upbringing an asset in working with his clients. “Living in America’s heartland means I can create a bond with each client as I help them without sacrificing the advantages I might find in a larger city. It’s important to build solid relationships because it isn’t about selling a customer a product. It’s about helping them find solutions for achieving their dreams. I had a vision for a far better model for retirement planning, where our service continues to our primary clients’ heirs. We’re already serving many second generation clients.”

Shane Barber has a dedicated, hard-working approach to working with his clients to help them plan and prepare to attain their retirement dreams. His mission is to educate his clients on the financial products available to develop the best options in income and tax distribution strategies, money management, estate planning, insurance, securities and mutual funds. He understands that his clients have worked hard to achieve their financial freedom and flexibility, and he provides solutions designed to make their money work just as hard for them in retirement.

Bruce Godke has been offering financial guidance and solutions to Kansas Citians for more than a decade, using an objective, process driven approach that considers quantitative data as well as individual values, dreams and desires. He works closely with clients to customize, implement and manage comprehensive retirement plans that include investment, tax, insurance and estate strategies and planning. Bruce, a Registered Financial Consultant (RFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), specializes in creating effective solutions for individuals, business owners and professionals. His comprehensive, service-oriented approach to assisting clients is designed to help people transform their visions of retirement into reality.

Bud Kasper has been a fixture in the financial world of Kansas City area residents for nearly 30 years, offering proven, targeted investment and planning solutions based on his clients specific and personal objectives. His goal is to create trust with each client by educating them about financial planning solutions based on his experience and in-depth knowledge of products, strategies and current economic conditions. Bud, a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) with his insurance and Series 7 and 63 securities licenses, is dedicated to creating effective solutions in the areas of asset management, estate planning, retirement planning, insurance and annuities. He and his wife currently reside in Lee Summit, MO, a suburb of Kansas City.

Paul Miller Paul Miller

Paul Miller is a Registered Financial Consultant (RFC) with over 25 years of experience assisting individuals in solidifying goals for their lifestyle and legacy needs, and building concrete, written plans so they can make smart choices about their money. He specializes in working with those 55 years or older and preparing to retire, offering comprehensive insight and understanding of the issues this particular age group faces that. Paul’s honest and thorough approach to assisting his clients complements his knowledge and experience with financial and insurance products. He offers a full array of financial products and options including equity based products like stocks, bonds and mutual funds, along with annuities and life insurance products. He earned his series 6, 22, 62, and 63 securities licenses, and holds licenses for Life, Health and Accident insurance products.

Eric Sheerin Eric Sheerin

Eric Sheerin began his career in financial services in 2003 with a goal of assisting his Kansas City customers turn their retirement dreams into reality. His client-centered focus is important in developing solutions for their income and retirement planning needs. His objective guidance results in effective strategies using equity and fixed income investments, annuities, mutual funds, qualified retirement plans and insurance. A graduate of Kansas State University in Marketing and Finance, Eric is a Registered Financial Consultant (RFC) and an Ed Slott Elite Advisor, with series 6, 7, 63 and 66 securities licenses.

Melissa Ellis

Melissa Ellis joined Barber Financial Group in October 2008, after a long career in the travel industry, just in time for the bumpy ride the Market took that year. Melissa has her Series 7 & Series 66 licenses and has clients in 14 states. She is a member of the Greater Kansas City chapter of the Financial Planning Association. Melissa enjoys working with people and helping them achieve their financial goals. "It's my goal to help my clients live well in their retirement by helping them develop financial independence. I do this by building a personalized financial plan for each client, regardless of the size of their portfolio, to help them achieve their financial goals. It's very rewarding to help your clients get their financial plans in order."

Melissa is a cum laude graduate of Park University with a Bachelor of Arts - Business Management degree and is currently seeking a Masters degree in Personal Financial Planning from the University of Missouri – Columbia.
